Rincon man faces series of forgery, ID theft charges

Rincon Police have arrested a 20-year-old man and charged with him a host of forgery and identity theft crimes.

Officers apprehended Steven Anderson on Feb. 16 in connection with several vehicle break-ins and commercial burglaries. Rincon Police said that during these incidents, Anderson stole check books and the personal identity of the victims. Anderson was arrested at Walmart while attempting to return items for a cash refund  he purchased with the stolen checks.
The victims in these incidents range from individuals to business owners throughout Effingham County and Chatham County.

As of now, Anderson has been charged with 12 counts of first degree forgery, 12 counts of second degree forgery, 10 counts of identity theft, five counts of identity fraud, three counts of entering an auto, three counts of misdemeanor theft by taking, felony theft by taking, burglary, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, possession of drug related objects and possession of a controlled substance.

Anderson could face additional charges as the investigation is ongoing and more arrests are expected.
