A Rincon Police officer made her mark on the state’s Hands Across the Border operation with an arrest for marijuana and a handgun.

The joint Georgia-South Carolina law enforcement operation took place at the base of the Talmadge Bridge and saw several arrests during the course of the evening.  DUI checkpoints were set up on both sides of the bridge.  Approximately 150 officers from the two states were involved.

Officer Lee found just over a pound of marijuana and a .380 automatic gun. She said that when they pulled the car over “you could smell the odor of marijuana.”

There were four people in the car as she and Garden City officer Robert Petit and his K9, Sultan, checked the car. Lee said they discovered several hiding places within the car, including one with an electronic scale hidden away.

Travis Drummond was arrested.

Lee comes to the Rincon Police Department from Chatham County and has been on the job for two and a half months.  The Governor’s Office of Highway Safety sponsors Hands Across the Border.
