The search is continuing for a suspect who got into a confrontation with Effingham County Sheriff’s deputies after a pursuit early Thursday morning.
Authorities said Fabian Armendariz, 23, of Rincon, fought with deputies after the Chevy Tahoe he was driving was pulled over on Goshen Road.

A patrol deputy observed a Chevy Tahoe traveling at a high rate of speed and driving reckless when he attempted to make a traffic stop.

The deputy attempted to block Armendariz in and after scuffling with the deputy, Armendariz was partially tased by another deputy. But he was able to get up and he fled into the woods.

Deputies believe that Armendariz may still be in the area, possibly South Carolina.

“We’re still looking for him,” said ECSO spokesman Detective David Ehsanipoor.

Armendariz is facing multiple charges including battery on a law enforcement officer, fleeing and attempting to elude, felony obstruction and reckless driving.

He also has been arrested several times for a variety of offenses in Chatham County.

Deputies also found a small amount of marijuana residue in the Tahoe that Armendariz was driving. Armendariz’s passengers were not charged with any offenses.

Anyone with information on Armendariz’s whereabouts is asked to contact the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office at 754-3449.
