Rincon Police have arrested a convicted sex offender on charges of child molestation.
Jerry Collins, 37, of Smithfield Drive in Rincon, was arrested Friday after he was charged with molesting a 12-year-old female.
Rincon Police discovered Collins was a convicted sex offender out of Washington state and had failed to register locally as a convicted sex offender.
The Rincon Police Department stated that Collins lives within 1,000 feet of a recreation facility, which is a violation of Georgia law.
A search warrant was executed on his residence and several items were recovered including a hard drive, which is believed to contain illegal material.
The hard drive is being sent to the GBI for forensic evaluation.
Collins has been charged with child molestation, sexual battery, sexual exploitation of a child, enticing a child for indecent purposes and cruelty to a child.
He was taken to Effingham County Jail, where he was denied bond.
