Effingham County Sheriff’s Office investigators are continuing to probe a reported home invasion that occurred Saturday afternoon.

Deputies responded to a home on Indigo Road north of Springfield around 3 p.m. Saturday and met with the victim, who was suffering from multiple injuries and abrasions. The victim was taken to Memorial University Medical Center and treated and released.

The victim told deputies that two men had entered his home. According to ECSO spokesman Detective David Ehsanipoor, there were signs of a struggle and the victim fired two rounds from his shotgun but did not hit anybody with the blasts.

Sheriff’s investigators believe the suspects and the victim know each other and there isn’t cause for alarm in the neighborhood.

“We’re trying to establish the facts in the case,” Sheriff Jimmy McDuffie said.
