Update. March 8, 2024, 1:55 p.m. The victim in Thursday's crash has been identified as 58-year-old Melissa Newcity of Clyo.

EFFINGHAM COUNTY -- The Effingham County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Unit is investigating a fatal crash near Clyo.

Deputies responded to the intersection of Stillwell-Clyo Road and Berryville Road just after 3 p.m. Thursday for a two-vehicle crash.

Preliminary information indicates that a vehicle turned left in front of another vehicle causing a significant crash.

The driver of the left-turning vehicle was taken to the hospital, where she later died of her injures.

Two occupants inside of the other vehicle were also taken to the hospital in stable condition.

Identification of the involved parties is pending notification of next of kin.

This crash is under investigation by the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Unit.
