Effingham County athlete tests positive
COVID-19

Effingham County school officials received notification Tuesday that a current student athlete at Effingham County High School has tested positive for COVID-19. To their knowledge, this is the first confirmed case for any ECSD student athlete.

The individual attended strength and conditioning workouts the past two weeks and has maintained presence in the initial workout group assigned to him per GHSA and Effingham County School District guidance.

The Effingham County School District is working closely with Georgia Department of Health Officials to carefully evaluate necessary ongoing actions. School officials have begun the process of tracing contacts made with the student so that those who may have been exposed to the virus can be notified.

At this time, football and baseball voluntary workouts at Effingham County High School and softball voluntary workouts at South Effingham High School have been postponed until July 6. The district will continue to follow specific guidelines set forth by the CDC, GHSA, and the Department of Public Health in an effort to keep our students and employees safe. It also encourages staff, students  and all community members to wash hands frequently and practice social distancing in group settings.
