Augusta businessman Rick W. Allen has filed with the Federal Election Commission to become an official candidate in the 12th Congressional District.

“After prayerful consideration with my family and many words of encouragement from friends, I am proud to announce my campaign to replace John Barrow with a conservative family man and small business leader,” Allen said.

A graduate of Auburn University’s School of Architecture and Fine Arts with a Bachelor of Science in Building Construction, Allen founded R.W. Allen & Associates, a construction corporation with offices in Augusta and Athens.

Rick is a member of countless business and civic associations in his community. Along with taking part in the First Class of Leadership Augusta in 1980, Allen also received the 2008 Augusta Metro Chamber of Commerce Small Business Person of the Year Award. An active member of Trinity-On-The-Hill United Methodist Church, Rick has served as Chairman of Pastor-Parish Relations, along with serving on the Finance Committee, Administrative Board and Board of Trustees.

“Many of the politicians elected to represent us are out of touch with the working class and we, as a nation, are suffering as a result,” said Allen. “Since early 2009, unemployment has hovered over 8 percent. Small businesses, our nation’s job creators, are being taxed and regulated to death and are struggling to stay afloat. More Americans than ever are in danger of losing their homes. This is unacceptable. We need to build on the foundation of our nation’s economy by loosening Washington’s grip and letting the free market do its job.”
