ATLANTA—The Department of Revenue has announced that online voting has begun for the Georgia License Plate Design Contest.

More than 500 entries were submitted by the public with artwork for a fresh, new design for Georgia’s next standard issue license plate which is scheduled to be produced in 2012.

A panel of Georgia college and university art professors participated in narrowing the selection to the top eight designs. Online voting can be readily accessed at:

“The Department is pleased to offer an attractive array of designs for online voting,” State Revenue Commissioner Doug MacGinnitie said. “We encourage everyone to vote for their favorite design that best represents the state of Georgia.”

Once online voting concludes July 8, the three license plates garnering the most votes will comprise the finalists to be presented to Gov. Nathan Deal, who will announce the winning design on July 15. The winning artist will participate in the announcement ceremony along with Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle and Commissioner MacGinnitie.
