Guyton to weigh new trash pact with Republic

Guyton City Council will discuss renewing a contract with Republic Waste Services at a called meeting Monday after tabling a discussion on the agreement earlier this week.

Guyton, the other municipalities served by Republic and Effingham County may look at doing something in conjunction on a deal with Republic.

“They have improved their service,” Alderman Les Pevey said.

Pevey said county officials have gotten together with Republic representatives to discuss new terms of a contract. County commissioners are expected to go over a new contract with Republic at their meeting Tuesday afternoon. Guyton’s contract with Republic expires in March.

“The county could have something for us to review next month,” Pevey said.

Putting the contract back out for bid may not be in the best interest, he warned.

“We’re afraid that since they own so many companies, if we put this out for bid, the price will really go up,” Pevey said.
