Work on refurbishing the Hinely Community Center in Rincon should be complete by the end of next week according to Rincon Recreation Director David Wooten.

The building is getting new windows, new paint, new flooring and a new front porch. The Hinely Center is used for community group meetings, bingo nights and for a voting polling place, among other things.

The Hinely Center is the first of several Park and Rec. projects in the works this year. The Lions Club building on Lexington Avenue, next to Macomber Park, is home for Senior Movie Day on Thursday mornings starting at 9:30 a.m. Seniors can gather and relax, enjoying coffee and snacks while enjoying a movie together.

The Lions Club building, bought by the city, also is due to undergo renovation also and work is scheduled to begin in June. The Lions Club building is much larger than the Hinely Center and can accommodate larger groups. It also has several breakout rooms and a large kitchen area.

The third large project for Rincon’s recreation department is the creation of Patriot Park, just beyond the YMCA property. Work is under way there to build tennis courts and parking, and to create a large greenspace for additional soccer fields and other community activities. Work is scheduled to be finished in June for the first phase and a pavilion with restrooms should be completed in 2011.
