GUYTON -- Even though it won't be credited for it in the win column, South Effingham's boys soccer team logged a victory of sorts against Richmond Hill on Friday.

The Mustangs, despite surrendering many more shots than they took, notched a 2-2 tie thanks to a late goal and some heroic saves by goalkeeper Anthony Beck.

"Mentally, we won, but they had us on our heels the whole game," South Effingham coach Matt Hunnewell said. "They run kind of a different formation than we play with sometimes."

Hunnewell experimented with his lineup since the contest was a non-region affair.

"We tried several new guys in new positions," he said. "We had a lot of freshmen out there and different starters just to kind of change things up. Non-region games are when we want to be pressured and test some of our weaknesses."

The Mustangs achieved the tie when Edwin Garcia scored with 3:39 remaining. They had trailed for the previous 24 minutes.

"Richmond Hill is a great team," Hunnewell said. "They always are. We enjoy playing them."

Jaydon Parrish scored South Effingham's first goal just two minutes into the contest. It was his eighth goal in five games.

The Mustangs got stellar play in the next from Beck, who stopped multiple shots from point-blank range.

"He had a ton of shots against him," Hunnewell said. "He had a lot of big saves. He made some saves that really left us in the game and gave us a chance to tie it up late."
