Current Effingham County commissioner Myra Lewis has qualified to run for re-election.

Lewis, who represents District 2, is being opposed by former Board of Education chairwoman Vera Jones and local businessman Michael King.
Jeff Utley, who represents District 3, also is running for re-election. He is being opposed by Steve Mason. Phil Kieffer has qualified to run for the District 5 seat, where two-term commissioner Verna Phillips is not seeking re-election.

All six of the candidates have qualified to run as Republicans in the July 20 partisan primary.

No Democrats have qualified as of presstime Thursday, but Gussie Nease of the Effingham Democrats said she expected qualifiers to sign by the close of the qualifying period today.
