Norfolk Southern to shut down crossing Wednesday through Friday

SPRINGFIELD -- Georgia DOT announced that Norfolk Southern Railroad will close the railroad crossing on Ga Hwy 119 in Springfield for emergency rail repairs. The highway will is slated to be closed from 7 a.m., Wednesday until 7 p.m. Friday.
 
During the closure, a detour will be in place on state routes to accommodate high traffic volumes. Traffic will be detoured via Hwy 21 Spur and Hwy 21. 


The roadway will reopen early if the work is completed ahead of schedule or could possibly be closed longer if weather delays the work.
 

Hwy 119 will remain open to local traffic up to the work zone. The existing one-track railroad crossing, operated by Norfolk Southern Railroad, will be closed to replace damaged rails at this location.
