Pair charged with commercial gambling

RINCON -- The Rincon Police Department, U.S. Secret Service, Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Commercial Gambling Task Force, Effingham County District Attorney’s Office, Georgia Department of Revenue, Pooler Police Department and the Georgia Lottery Commission executed search warrants at the Texaco EZ-Mart and at an apartment in Pooler Tuesday morning after conducting an extensive criminal investigation into illegal gambling involving gaming machines. Authorities recovered gambling records, receipts and the proceeds of illegal gambling operations in excess of $85,000. Authorities arrested the following on one count each of commercial gambling: Jamie Carrillo, 58, of Rincon Vijay Biraj, 32, of Pooler These arrests resulted from an investigation by the Rincon Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division, U.S. Secret Service, Chatham County Narcotics Team, Chatham County District Attorney’s Office and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Commercial Gambling Task Force. Despite this accusation and arrest, the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
