The Veterans Park of Effingham County was recently presented with a check for $1,000 from the National Ladies Auxiliary of the Military Order of the Purple Heart.

The organization makes such contributions to organizations or efforts that are made on behalf of recognizing  veterans.

The check was presented to Ruth Lee, board chairperson of the Veterans Park, by Rose Cook, who is Region 4 (seven Southeastern states and Puerto Rico) president. Cook has had an active role in the Veterans Park since its inception.

The contribution was to allow the Veterans Park to update its computer capabilities in managing the information that has been received from veterans as they are included on the “Wall of Honor” at the park.

“We have a lot of information that will be very valuable to persons wanting to  know more about their friends and relatives in the service to our country,” Lee said “Information includes when and where served and lists the various citations and medals awarded these veterans. While we do not have full and complete information, it is a place that will preserve this information for future generations.

“We have appreciated Rose Cook’s untiring efforts for our Veterans Park and owe her our appreciation for this contribution. We honor the organization and the veterans they represent for continuous efforts to see that all service persons are honored and remembered, especially those who proudly wear their purple hearts,” Lee continued.
