RFD ready to fill the boot for MDA

Firefighters in Rincon battle more than fires.

On Aug. 8 starting at 5:30 p.m. and on the following day from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at the intersection of Fort Howard Road and Highway 21 near Wal-Mart, firefighters will team up with the Muscular Dystrophy Association to “fill the boot.” These “boot drives” offer the community a chance to donate money that will be used in the battle against neuromuscular diseases.

Last year, the Rincon Fire Department raised more than $4,000. With support from the community, they hope to raise $4,500. Chief Corey Rahn and Assistant Chief Kenny Whitten have been instrumental in organizing this event. The proceeds collected by the RFD will aid local children and adults affected by neuromuscular diseases.

For over 54 years, firefighters and MDA have partnered to fight neuromuscular disease. MDA applauds these heroes, who not only battle flames, but muscular dystrophy.
