A Clyo man was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound Wednesday after U.S. Marshals served a warrant at his residence.

Mid-afternoon Wednesday, U.S. Marshals serving a warrant to a residence on Green Morgan School Road in Clyo heard a single gunshot ring out and called for assistance.

“U.S. Marshals came out looking to serve a felony arrest warrant, heard a single gunshot and backed out of the residence,” Effingham County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Joe Heath said. “They requested SWAT team from Savannah-Chatham. Once they backed out and requested the SWAT team - once they got here – they started to approach the residence.”

Heath said upon investigating, they found the suspect inside the residence deceased.

“During their investigation, they determined that he was deceased from a single self-inflicted gunshot wound,” Heath said. “We’ll get more information from the Marshals – it was their warrant.”

The identity of the deceased is not being released at this time as authorities will notify next of kin first.

No officers were injured during the investigation.

More information to come as it is released.
