RINCON — Jose Ramirez has notified the City of Rincon that he is appealing his termination as an officer with the Rincon Police Department.

Ramirez, a lieutenant who spent 12 years with the department, had 10 days to appeal following his Jan. 16 termination.

The termination followed an investigation into violations of employment standards of the City of Rincon and the police department. No details of the violations were given.

In the wake of last year’s resignation of Phillip Scholl, Ramirez served as Rincon’s interim police chief for several weeks until Mark Gerbino was hired to fill the position on a permanent basis in October.

Ramirez was an early candidate for the job but withdrew his candidacy during the selection process.
