SPRINGFIELD -- At approximately 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Unit was dispatched to Old Augusta Road, just south of Chimney Road, after a crashed vehicle was discovered over an embankment. 

David Bennett, 28, was believed to be traveling to work in the early morning hours, around 4:30 a.m., when the accident occurred. The accident claimed his life. 

This is the sixth fatal crash and seventh traffic-related death in the county this year.
