RINCON — About 50 people looking for a good time in Effingham County lassoed one at The Herald Center on Friday.

Western-themed Barbecue, Beer and Botox was the first public event conducted at The Effingham Herald’s venue at 1204 N. Columbia Ave. It featured the music of Jason Courtenay, Rusty Pig cuisine and, of course, Botox. Even a few impromptu sack races broke out.

Effingham Smiles Denistry staffers were on hand to answer questions about Botox and several people received injections designed to smooth frown lines, crow’s feet and forehead creases.

“I think it went really, really well,” Effingham Herald General Manager Kim Dennis said. “The feedback that we got from the people was, ‘We need to have more of this in Rincon.’ ‘It was a great evening.’ ‘I can’t wait for the next one.’”

Plans are in the works for a football-themed event at The Herald Center in August or September.

“This is something that we are going to be doing fairly regularly, especially during the school year when people are not off on vacation,” Dennis said. “People in Effingham County want an opportunity to have an evening out without having to drive all the way into Savannah or Pooler. The setting (for Barbecue, Beer and Botox) was perfect because it was outdoors and it was family friendly even though it was geared more toward adults.

“It was convenient and fun, and all the feedback was terrific.”

Rincon Chevrolet and Marshland Credit Union were the event’s Platinum sponsors. Wiley’s Home Center was a Silver sponsor.

In addition to Effingham Smiles, Ben Williams Insurance and Norberg Chiropractic & Wellness Center had booths inside The Herald Center.
