SPRINGFIELD -- The Effingham County Rebels were generous to a fault against Wayne County on Tuesday.

Even though they struck out 15 times, the Yellow Jackets capitlized on most of the eight bases on balls they received en route to an 11-2 victory.

"When you give free bases, it just comes back to get you," Rebels coach Brett Griffin said. "It's hard to keep up with that, balls going all over the place and you continue to give them a free base. The next thing you know they are crossing the plate."

Eight of the first nine outs made by Wayne County were strikeouts but the leadoff man reached via walk in three of the first four innings. All three scored.

A couple of walks also led to a five-run uprising by the Yellow Jackets in the seventh frame.

"We are a team that likes to come out and pound the strike zone, make some plays and get ahead," Griffin said. "Tonight, our pitchers were unable to do that. Their stuff is there. We've just got to throw more strikes."
