After going undefeated in the Stingers Classic Tournament in Hazlehurst, the South Effingham Middle School Lady Mustangs opened region softball play with wins against Ebenezer Middle School and Effingham County Middle School.
SEMS scored 11 runs over the first three innings en route to a 15-2 win over Ebenezer. Emily Laverenz struck out five over two hitless innings, and Kylie Bohl struck out two and gave up three hits over three innings.
Alexa Johanson was 3-for-3 with one RBI, Kastin Belogorska was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, Kamryn Taylor was 2-for-2, Cheyenne Miller was 2-for-3, Ashleigh Woods had a double and two RBIs, Madelyn Smith drove in two runs, Hailey Pinette had a triple and one RBI, Dailey Bilenski and Alex Brown each went 1-for-2 with one RBI, Lauren Conaway and Mallori Jenkins each had one hit and one RBI, Laverenz added a double and Allie Ergle was 1-for-2.
An eight-run fourth inning spurred SEMS to a 12-1 victory in five innings over Effingham County Middle School. Belogorska struck out seven, allowing one earned run on four hits and one walk over five innings.
She also had a triple and two RBIs. Pinette had a double and drove in three runs, Jenkins was 3-for-3 with a double and three RBIs, Johanson was 2-for-3, Conaway had a triple and three RBIs, Caroline Brown added a double and one RBI, and Bohl, Smith and Woods each went 1-for-2.
SEMS added wins over Screven County, 13-1 in a no-hitter, and 17-1 over Burke County.
Laverenz and Pinette teamed on the no-hitter while Ergle went 3-for-3 with one RBI. Smith and Johanson each went 2-for-2 with one RBI, Belogorska was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, Conaway drove in a run, and Miller and Courtney Cubbedge each went 2-for-3 with one RBI.
Against Burke County, Krysten Hodges was 2-for-3 with three RBIs, Brown went 2-for-2 with one RBI, Ashleigh Woods knocked in two runs, Bohl was 1-for-2 with one RBI and Taylor and Natalie Easterling had one RBI each.
