Rincon's Brown slaps homer for No. 6 Bobcats

MILLEDGEVILLE -- The No. 6 Georgia College baseball team (6-4, 1-0 Peach Belt Conference) made a statement in its first defense of the 2018 Peach Belt Conference (PBC) championship, controlling Georgia Southwestern State University (3-5, 0-1 PBC) 16-2 Friday at John Kurtz Field.

 

The Bobcats wasted little time taking control, scoring nine runs in the first inning, sending 14 hitters to the plate. Third baseman Cassius Young (Atlanta) provided the biggest blow with a two-run single.

 

Young added another whallop with a solo home run in the second, the first round-tripper for GC Bthis season. Young finished the game 2-for-3 with four runs and three RBIs.

 

Leftfielder KC Brown (Rincon) also provided a home run, taking a shot to right center for two runs in the sixth. Brown had two hits in four trips and drove in three.

 

Senior righty Bradly Cammack (Soperton) spun five innings for the win, improving to 2-1. He allowed two runs and fanned eight.

 

Second baseman Cal Gentry (Perry) had a 3-for-3 game with two runs and an RBI, while designated hitter Wesley Wommack (Monroe) also tallied a pair of hits, scored twice and drove in another.

 

Centerfielder Cam Hill (Marietta) was 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored.

 

The Bobcats are back in action Saturday at 1 p.m., completing the three-game set with the Hurricanes in doubleheader action.
