

GUYTON -- South Effingham (23-2-1) knocked off top-seeded Effingham County (17-5) at The Corral on Thursday to clinch the Region 2-AAAAAA softball championship.
The Lady Mustangs broke a 1-1 tie by scoring two runs in the fifth frame and added four more in the sixth en route to a 7-1 victory.
South Effingham, the No. 2 seed, advanced to the title round by beating Effingham County 5-1 a day earlier at Rebel Field.
Caraline Stone powered South Effingham with three hits and three RBI. Kaley Stone added two hits and scored a run.
Alex Brown and Whitney Thompson scored two runs apiece for the Lady Mustangs.
Winning pitcher Bailey Kendziorski allowed six hits while going the distance. She didn't issue a free pass.
Rylee Mills and Enna Lackey paced the Lady Rebels with two hits each. Mills had her team's lone RBI.
Effingham County advanced to the title game by edging Glynn Academy 3-2 in eight innings earlier Thursday. The decisive blow was a walk-off homer Caleigh Eubanks. It was her first circuit clout.
South Effingham and Effingham County will open the state playoffs next week with best--of-three series against Region 3-AAAAAA foes.
