GUYTON -- South Effingham scored on its first three possessions and breezed past Islands 24-0 Friday night in the inaugural game with synthetic turf at The Corral.
Jamari Fields led the way with 93 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries. Justin Martell and Robert Clark added touchdown runs and Tyler Quick booted a 31-yard field goal and three extra points.
The Mustangs (1-1) ran for 226 yards and the defense held Islands to minus 30 yards on the ground.
It was South's first shutout since blanking Long County 35-0 in the 2018 season opener..
