STATESBORO -- The broad shoulders of Effingham County's defense helped carry the Rebels to a 20-15 victory over Statesboro on Friday night.

Despite getting just one first down in the opening half, the Rebels (4-1) found themselves up 13-8 at halftime and kept turning the Blue Devils away from the end zone time after time.

One of Effingham County's key defensive plays was a 35-yard fumble return for a touchdown by Joseph Solomon midway through the second quarter. It came just 13 seconds after Necos Gasden hauled in a 37-yard touchdown pass from Jerid Stokes.
