Cairo ends soccer Mustangs' season

The Cairo Syrupmakers soccer team notched its first state playoff win Thursday, beating the South Effingham Mustangs 3-0 at West Thomas Stadium in Cairo in the first round of the Class AAA playoffs.

Mose Willis broke the scoreless tie with 6 minutes left before halftime, and the Syrupmakers (12-0-1) scored twice in the first 10 minutes of the second half to put the game away. Willis added his second goal, and John McClenny added the final score for the Syrupmakers.

The Mustangs finished the season at 7-10. Cairo advances to meet Hardaway, a 3-1 winner over Spalding.
