Columbus ousts South Effingham

The Columbus Blue Devils, led by top singles seed Adam Sexton, swept the South Effingham Mustangs out of the Class AAA tennis tournament with a 4-0 win Wednesday at Lakebottom Park.

The Blue Devils dropped just one game in two singles matches and lost only five games in doubles play.

Sexton downed Geoff Beecher 6-0, 6-0, and No. 2 seed Sammy Jarjour beat Sean Juergens 6-1, 6-0. The third-seeded match between South Effingham’s Bradley Collins and Amay Kulkarni was not played.

Souman Randra and Chandler Wilkes took No. 1 doubles from Nick Edel and Austin Kursten 6-1, 6-1, and Ben Warden and Derek Hay completed the win with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Max Barber and Shane Jenkins at No. 2 doubles.

Columbus will play Central-Macon in the second round.
