Derby postponed because of rain

The home run derby was postponed Thursday because of rain. But that didn’t stop former Effingham County High School baseball star Sam Dotson of putting forth a prediction.

“I was going to win it anyway,” he said. “I would hit five homers in the first round, six in the second and 10 in the finals.”

So, if anyone wants to one-up the current Armstrong Atlantic slugger, they have a chance. The derby is re-scheduled for Aug. 4 at 5 p.m.

“He said that?” ECHS baseball coach Brett Griffin said about his former player. “He hit a few home runs for us.”

If the derby is rained out again, then it will be cancelled. Last year’s derby was washed out.
