Former Rebel instrumental in Wofford upset

Wofford College defeated No. 1 Appalachian State 42-31 on Saturday afternoon at Gibbs Stadium to open Southern Conference play.

Wofford had five different players score touchdowns, and the defense came up with two interceptions and a fumble recovery in the victory.

Former Effingham County High School standout Seth Goldwire led the Terrier defense with 11 tackles.
For the season, the inside linebacker has a team-high 35 tackles.

Wofford broke Appalachian State’s 17-game winning streak — the longest in the nation.

To put the win in perspective, Appalachian State had defeated Michigan earlier in the season.

Wofford travels to Greenville, S.C. on Saturday to play SoCon foe Furman at 6 p.m.
