Guyton's Conaway contributes in Brenau sweep

GAINESVILLE -- Starting pitcher Jessica Rathje (Glencoe, Ala.) threw a perfect game to lead the Brenau softball team past Allen University on Monday.

In game one, Rathje allowed no hits or baserunners while also striking out 10 Yellow Jacket batters through five innings in a dominating performance to help her team roll to an 8-0 win.

The Brenau bats pounded out 11 hits and stole 10 bases against Allen starter Shelby Griffin in the victory.

Sophomore Faith Grooms (Commerce had two hits and a career-high six stolen bases, while freshman Maygan Loparo (Sugar Hill) had two hits, two RBIs and three steals. Fellow freshman Alyssa Maisonet (Milner) also added three RBIs and a stolen base.

In game two, the Golden Tigers scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth to pull away with an 8-5 win.

Sophomore Autumn Conaway (Guyton) drove in two RBIs, while freshman Claire Fendig (Brunswick) added both a pair of hits and a pair of steals.

Starter Chloe Fambrough (Watkinsville) pitched 6 1/3 innings, allowing two earned runs to capture her third win of the season.
