South Effingham’s softball team continued its Region 3-AAA South dominance, defeating Liberty County 7-0 on Monday and Burke County 26-0 in five innings on Tuesday. Both games were on the road.
The Lady Mustangs improved to 15-10-1 overall and 7-0 in the subregion.
In the win over Liberty County, Allison Kirkland pitched a complete game, allowing only one hit and two walks. She struck out 16 batters.
Liberty’s Cassie Standard also pitched well. She did not give up a run until the fifth inning.
Sarah Parker and Austin Oglesby led the Lady Mustangs at the plate with two hits each.
Casey Johnson pitched a complete game in the win over Burke County, allowing three hits and striking out nine.
South Effingham erupted for 15 runs in the fifth inning.
Six Lady Mustangs had multi-hit games, including Alexis Mercer, Lindsey Brichacek, Joni Lynn, Oglesby, Maria Godinez and Laura Bryant.
The Lady Mustangs host Hephzibah at noon on Saturday in a double-header. Subregion play concludes on Tuesday against Liberty County. Game time is 6 p.m.
