Lady Mustangs roll past Hardaway for Elite 8 berth

South Effingham’s girls tennis team advanced to the quarterfinals of the Class AAA state tournament with a 4-1 win over Hardaway on Tuesday afternoon.

The Lady Mustangs took both doubles matches from the Lady Hawks. The top doubles team of Katherine Perrin and Cassie Hiatt topped Tiffany Schandera  and Chelsea Baker 6-1, 6-1, and the No. 2 team of Raven Giles and Kylie Adams beat Anna Parlher and Kelly Ellison 6-4, 6-1.

South Effingham No. 2 singles seed Allison Williford downed Michelle Nickerson 6-0, 6-2. Courtney Edenfield outlasted Sasha Rivera at No. 3 singles, 6-4, 3-6 10-8 (tiebreaker).

Hardaway’s Laura Chapman claimed the Lady Hawks’ lone victory with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Jessie Kessler at No. 1 singles.

South Effingham will host Columbus on Friday afternoon, with the winner advancing to the state final four at the Clayton County International Park. Columbus beat Westover 3-0 in its second round matchup, taking both doubles matches from the Lady Patriots.
