Mustangs charge to .500 with Region 2-AAAAA victory

The South Effingham Mustangs reached .500 for the first time this season with Monday's Region 2-AAAAA win over the Ware County Gators in Waycross.

Twins Chase and Jayce Warren did much of the offensive damage for South Effingham (8-8), combining for four hits and four RBI. Chase Warren scored twice and Jayce Warren knocked in three.

Jakob Valleroy staked the Mustangs to a 1-0 lead with a first-inning RBI single. The Warrens did the bulk of their damage in the third frame as they helped pad the advantage to 6-0.

Nick Milbrandt and Brice Ogle also had RBI for the Mustangs, who have recovered from an 0-4 start.

Hunter Morgan was credited with the pitching victory. He allowed three hits and two runs over four innings.

Valleroy and Josh Berg hurled in relief, with Berg getting the final five outs.
