Rebels get going late, overpower Pirates

The Effingham County Rebels startly slowly but finished fast in a 12-1 Region 2-AAAAAA victory over Brunswick on Wednesday.

The visiting Rebels (19-5) trailed the Pirates 1-0 after the first frame and didn't score until exploding for eight fifth-inning runs. They added four more in the closing two innings and finished with 16 hits.

Christian Campbell (2), Jerid Stokes (2), Chandler Hinely (3) and Dustin Johnson (4) combined for 11 of the Rebels' base knocks.

Justin Wilcox drove in two Effingham County runs. Campbell, Chrys Hawkins, Jordan Rahn, Austin Mealor, JR Lonon, Hinely and Johnson added one RBI apiece.

Ethan Johnson was the winning pitcher. He worked all seven innings, logging 11 strikeouts while allowing just six hits.
