Rebels split pair of games in Evans

Saturday's baseball results in Evans were a mixed bag for the  Effingham County Rebels.

Effingham County opened strongly, especially on the mound, by edging the Heritage Patriots 3-2. In the second contest, however., the Rebels were throttled 14-0 by Winder-Barrow in 4 1/2 innings.

Merritt Evans was the winning pitcher in the first game. He surrendered two runs on six hits over six innings, striking out six.

Ryan Harley got the final three outs for a save.

Jerid Stokes was Effingham County's offensive leader with two hits and an RBI. Jordan Rahn got one hit and drove in two runs.

Starter pitcher Avery Elenbaas only lasted 1 2./3 innings against  Winder-Barrow. He surrendered eight hits and nine runs.

Rahn collected two of the Rebels' four hits.
