Kessler survives two tiebreakers as Lady Mustangs advance

Jessie Kessler outlasted West Laurens’ Christi Baker in two tiebreakers, taking her No. 2 singles match as the South Effingham girls tennis team advanced to the Class AAA quarterfinals 3-2 Tuesday.

The Lady Mustangs and Lady Raiders were tied 2-2, having split the doubles matches and the other singles matches. Kessler won the first set 7-6 (7-2) and took the second set 7-6 (7-1) for the win.

Megan Dunbar won at No. 1 singles for South Effingham, beating April Fowler 6-2, 6-2. West Laurens’ Katherine Woodard topped Katie Tanner 7-6, 6-3 at No. 3 singles.

Cassie Hiatt and Allison Williford beat Morgan Miles and Meredith Miles 7-6 (8-6), 6-3 at No. 1 doubles. West Laurens’ No. 2 doubles team of Vini Gulanti  and India Cowell edged Ciara Knowles and Katherine Perrin 3-6, 6-4, 6-3.

South Effingham will host Columbus on Friday.
