South Effingham's bats remained quiet for the second straight game Thursday and it cost them a home playoff game.

A day after losing to Wayne County 1-0 at home in a game that left the two teams tied atop the region, the Mustangs were blanked again. The Yellow Jackets (17-12, 9-3) limited the Mustangs (17-13, 8-4) to just two hits in Jesup to clinch the 2-AAAAA title. Statesboro finished second (16-14, 9-3).

Josh Berg was the losing pitcher. He gave up six runs (two earned) on seven hits in 3 2/3 innings. Nick Milbrandt finished the game on the mound, scattering three hits.

Jakob Valleroy and Milbrandt swatted the Mustangs' hits.

South Effingham will visit McIntosh in the first round of the state playoff next week.
