SEHS sweeps Burke, Hephzibah

The South Effingham tennis teams swept Burke County, with the girls winning 4-0 and the boys posting a 3-2 victory.

Jessie Kessler blanked Hillary Cobb at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-0, and Allison Williford beat Annbell Byne 6-0, 6-3 at No. 2 singles. The third singles match was called.

In doubles, Katherine Perrin and Casie Hiatt beat Mary Katelland and Haily Larmar 6-3, 2-2 (called) at No. 1, and the No. 2 doubles team of Kylie Adams and Raven Giles beat Savannah Weirsman and Mandy Frazier 6-2, 6-1.

South Effingham top singles seed Geoff Beecher topped Channing Beauran 6-2, 6-2. Burke’s Michael Thigpen outlasted Sam Barber at No. 2 singles 6-2, 2-6, 10-5 and Joseph Ham took No. 3 singles from South Effingham’s Ryan Kessler 4-6, 7-6, 11-9.

In doubles, Tyler Jenkins and Max Barber of South Effingham blanked Chris Crozier and Lawton Rhodes 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 and the No. 2 team of Austin Kuster and Nick Edel beat Joel Cooper and Steben Farmer 6-1, 6-0.

South Effingham also swept Hephzibah, played to an eight-point tiebreaker. At No. 1 girls singles, Hiatt downed Gabrielle Marja 8-4, Hephzibah’s Vanessa Miller beat Madison Miller 8-6 and Meghan Smith and Ansley Triplett won the doubles match 8-3.

Shane Jenkins won at No. 1 singles for the boys, beating Ben Amerson 8-2, while Austin Freeman beat Raphael Armento 8-0 at No. 2 singles. South Effingham’s doubles team of Cody Schmelter and Mark Tanner blanked Adrian McKinney and Josh Lee 8-0.
