Coach Jona Downs and the South Effingham Middle School softball eighth graders are all smiles after the win over Burke County.

The South Effingham Middle School Lady Mustangs beat Burke County 16-0 in the eighth grade honors game.

Lauren Moss led the offense, going 2-for-2, scoring two runs and driving in two runs. Ansley Brown, Taylor Ross, Brooke Brabham and Dani Heald each went 1-for-2 with a run scored and one RBI. Alexis Studier had a run-scoring triple and Olivia Laverenz was 1-for-2, scoring three runs.

Logan Edenfield was 1-for-1 with a run scored and one RBI, Sydney Wilson drove in a run and Makenzie Kessler ended the game with a home run.
Brabham, Rami Jo Mesmer and Erika Griffin each struck out two batters and combined to hold Burke County to one hit.

The eighth grade members of the team recognized in a pre-game introduction were Brabham, Brown, Heald, Laverenz, Mesmer, Moss, Ross, Studier, Naomi Sapp and Brooke Strickland.
