SEMS softball team continues hot streak

The South Effingham Middle School softball team rolled over Savannah Christian 15-0 after an eight-run rally in the second inning.


Sixth-grade pitcher Kylie Bohl shut down Savannah Christian while she was in the circle. Bohl gave up just two hits, walked one and struck out five during her three innings of work.


SEMS pounded Savannah Christian pitching, as six hitters combined for nine hits, five RBIs and 11 runs scored.


Georgia Dowling was 1-for-3, Emily Laverenz 1-for-2 with three runs scored and one RBI, Mallori Jenkins  was 2-for-2 with two runs scored, Courtney Cubbedge had one RBI and scored one run, Kastin Belagorska was 1-for-1 with a run, Kiera Nesmith went 2-for-3 with two runs, Krysten Hodges was 1-for-1 with one run, Hailey Pinette was 1-for-1 with a run and two RBIs, Bohl was 2-for-2 with one RBI, Lauren Conaway went 1-for-2, Madi Goff was 2-for-2 with a run and one RBI, Natelie Easterling drove in one run and Francie Gaskin scored one run.


SEMS also routed Langston Chapel 19-0 at Mill Creek after pouring on 12 runs in the fifth inning.


Jenkins held LCMS to one hit and struck out eight, walking two in five innings.


The Lady Mustangs blew out Southeast Bulloch 13-2 after scoring seven runs in the fourth inning.


Cason Smith racked up five RBIs on two hits for SEMS. She homered in the second inning and singled in the fourth inning.


Laverenz shut down SEB while she was in the circle. Laverenz gave up just one hit, allowed two earned runs, walked three and struck out nine during her five innings of work.


Alexa Johanson was 1-for-2 with a run, Jenkins scored two runs and drove in one, Smith was 2-for-3 with two runs and five RBIs, Katelynn Hodges  was 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI, Dowling was 1-for-3, Laverenz was 1-for-2 with a run, Cubbedge, Belogorska, Bohl and Alli Ergle each scored a run, Cheyenne Miller was 1-for-2 with two RBIs, and Goff went 1-for-1 with one RBI.


The Lady Mustangs also took time to celebrate their eighth-graders and their accomplishments.


Smith has been on the team all three years and is the starting catcher and also plays shortstop.


Katelynn Hodges has played all three years, beginning at Effingham County Middle before coming to SEMS. She is the starting center fielder and also plays first base.


Dowling has played all three years and starts at third base and also plays some second and left field.


This is Goff’s first year on the team and she plays left field.
