The South Effingham Middle School softball team won its seventh straight region championship last Tuesday, beating Ebenezer Middle School 6-4 in the final.

SEMS scored five times in the third inning to erase a 1-0 Lady Eagles lead. Kaity White drove in a run in the sixth, and Katie Kussow struck out three and gave up one earned run on seven hits in the complete-game victory. SEMS’ defense helped Kussow out with timely plays.

Reagan Deal went 2-for-3. White, Kussow, Mallory Ferguson, Alexis Studier and Mariah Freeman each had a hit, while White, Kussow, Freeman, Studier and Amy Jameson each drove in a run. Ferguson, White, Freeman, Jameson, Studier and Cate Anderson scored.
