South Effingham holds off New Hampstead

South Effingham tallied the game's first five runs and then held on for a 5-3 Region 2-AAAAA baseball victory at New Hampstead on Monday.

The Mustangs (12-11, 5-2) scored twice in the first frame and three times in the fourth. Darius Badger, Carson Spendiff and Brice Ogle delivered RBI in the fourth inning.

Ogle collected three hits and two RBI in three at-bats. Nick Milbrandt added two hits for the Mustangs, who totaled nine base knocks.

Hunter Morgan and Nick Duke handled the pitching for South Effingham. Morgan started, going 3 2/3 innings with four hits and two earned runs allowed. Duke surrendered one run on two hits.

 South Effingham will host New Hampstead Thursday for a 5 p.m. doubleheader. The Mustangs will host Southeast Bulloch on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
