The Georgia Thunder, a 14-under softball team comprised of girls from Effingham, Bulloch and Screven counties won the Independent Softball Association World Series tournament in Myrtle Beach, S.C., July 13.

The Thunder started its march for the crown Wednesday, defeating the North Georgia Bandits 6-5 and the Florida Sebring Storm 9-0. The Thunder beat the Fort Lauderdale Lightning 2-0 in the semifinals Thursday. The Thunder beat the Lightning again Friday, 6-5 to claim the crown.
