Tormenta

South Georgia Tormenta FC announced the addition of former Effingham County High School girls soccer star Sydney Martinez to its inaugural women’s roster, pending league and federation approval.

Martinez graduated from ECHS in 2018 after starring for four years as the Rebels goaltender.

She earned a scholarship to the University of South Florida and started four seasons for the Bulls and twice was named a second-team All-American.

Last season, she recorded eight shutouts while leading USF to the American Athletic Conference finals and the NCAA Championships.

As a youth, Martinez excelled on Tormenta’s under-12 and under-15 teams.
