The FBLA members and business education students at Effingham County High School got the opportunity to participate in a program called “Journey through Justice” sponsored by the State Bar of Georgia.
On Oct. 27, the 19 students, along with FBLA advisor Karen Waltz and work-based learning coordinator Sherry Duff, traveled to Atlanta to participate. Deborah Craytor, who is a lawyer and is in charge of this educational program, taught the students about different business crimes and what punishments might be received for committing these crimes.
As part of the program, the students participated in a mock trial where they got to play the roles of jurors, defense attorney, defendant, plaintiff, bailiff, witnesses, etc.
The students had the opportunity to see what had been the law office of President Woodrow Wilson, visit the law museum and hear about some famous cases, such as the Lindbergh baby kidnapping trial.
The trip was made possible by Justice Served, Inc. of Alpharetta.
