SPRINGFIELD, Ga. — From a festive grand opening in downtown Springfield to holiday markets, dance performances and a Christmas parade, Effingham County is packed with seasonal events this week, offering music, lights and family-friendly fun.
Friday, Dec. 19
Effingham County Tax/Tag Office Grand Opening
Time: 5:30–7:30 p.m.
Location: 802 and 804 S. Laurel St., Springfield
Effingham County will celebrate the grand opening of its new Administration Building and Tax/Tag Office with a ribbon-cutting ceremony hosted by the Effingham County Chamber of Commerce. The event includes light refreshments, holiday décor and tours of the new offices. Highlights include storytime with Mrs. Claus, photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus, sidewalk chalk art for kids, seasonal treats and drinks, and a lighted holiday display. The event is presented by the Effingham County Board of Commissioners and is free and open to the public.
Friday, Dec. 19 – Jan. 3
Rincon Christmas Market
Location: Freedom Park, Rincon
The Rincon Christmas Market will be open on weekends from Dec. 19 through Jan. 3, with a special Wednesday opening on Dec. 31 for a New Year’s Eve celebration. For $3 admission, families can enjoy a variety of free seasonal attractions and activities, including holiday games, live entertainment, visits with Santa and the popular Elf Obstacle Course. Guests can also shop from local vendors, enjoy food trucks and participate in special events such as a cornhole tournament. Ice skating is available for $8 per person. Market highlights include live holiday music and performances, visits with Santa, an Elf Obstacle Course, a cornhole tournament, vendors and food trucks.
Saturday, Dec. 20
Holiday Dance Brings Whoville to Rincon
Time: 1 p.m.
Location: Freedom Park, Rincon
Eleven-year-old Ryan Lee will star as Cindy Lou Who in “How the Dancing Grinch Stole Christmas,” presented by Coastal Performing Arts Academy. The performance blends dance, music and storytelling inspired by the classic holiday tale. Lee, a fifth grader at Springfield Elementary School, has danced since age 2 and is performing in the lead role for the first time. The show is free and open to the public.
Saturday, Dec. 20
Springfield Navigator Christmas Parade
Time: 6–7 p.m.
Starting location: Board of Education building, 405 N. Ash St., Springfield
The Springfield Navigator Christmas Parade will wind through downtown Springfield, featuring festive floats and holiday cheer. The parade route includes Ash Street, Stillwell Road, Laurel Street and E. Madison Street before returning to Ash Street. Families are encouraged to bring chairs and enjoy the evening celebration.
