A group putting together a communitywide event for next month is anticipating a large crowd.

The Church of the Harvest Ministries is inviting the public to attend its community picnic, called, “We Are One – Effingham County” on Sept.19 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. The church is at 434 Weisenbaker Rd. More than 1,500 people are anticipated to attend.

The event will include free food, drinks and entertainment as well as free games, crafts and inflatable fun for children. They also are offering opportunities for area agencies to have informational booths during the event as a way of reaching out to and interacting with the public.

Organizers said the purpose of the event is to give back to the residents who make the community great.

Rincon City Council approved presenting a resolution endorsing the event, and Mayor Ken Lee recommended waiving any permit fees that might apply. He also suggested that organizers meet with Police Chief Mike Bohannon to discuss traffic and safety needs that day.

Area businesses are asked to participate by providing food and beverages to help feed the large anticipated crowd.

Karla Redditte will host the event and local officials are invited to attend. Businesses are encouraged to donate products or services to the day’s activities. For more information email: cothministries@msn.com or call (843) 476-6225 or Anniel Pelote at 657-2634.
