State to auction 38 horses now at its impound facility

The Georgia Department of Agriculture will auction 38 horses that were impounded for poor condition but have now been nursed back to good health.

“There is a wide selection of horses. Each one deserves a good home,” said Agriculture Commissioner Tommy Irvin.
The auction will be held at the Georgia Department of Agriculture Jasper County Impound Facility in Mansfield at 11 a.m. on Sept. 20.

The horses may be inspected at the facility from 9-11 a.m. on the day of the auction.

The successful bidder must be prepared to tender the price by cashiers check or money order and move the animal from the impoundment facility by 6 p.m. on Sept. 22. Payment may be made at the time the animal is picked up.

All horses are subject to periodic inspection by the Georgia Department of Agriculture for a period of 12 months. In addition, the department reserves the right to withhold loading if transport trailer is deemed unsafe for occupancy or road use.
